Broadway Radio Program 'A Night on the Town' Features the Music of 'Pal Joey' Now Available Online

This week on the radio program, "A Night on the Town," host George Harter takes theater enthusiasts through the music of the classic 1940s Broadway show, Pal Joey. Each week, Harter plays Broadway songs centered around a certain theme, and he gives historical tidbits about the different shows in between songs. "A Night on the Town" is a weekly radio show that started in Kansas City and is now broadcast on public radio in several cities throughout the United States.

In Kansas City, "A Night on the Town" is heard on KPR, at 91.5 FM, Saturday nights at 9. Special licensing arrangements enable them to also make the show available online for two weeks after the broadcast date.

In 1980, as a part time announcer for KXTR, Kansas City's commercial classical station, George Harter began "A Night on the Town" on Saturday nights, featuring vintage Broadway show music. It was the first program of its kind in the country. "A Night on the Town" quickly became the top rated local weekend radio program. In 1998, it was picked up for distribution
by the WFMT Fine Arts Network in Chicago.

Today, "A Night on the Town" is sponsored by the historic Algonquin Hotel in New York, and reaches thousands of listeners of all ages and economic levels nationwide.

"A Night on the Town" is written and produced by George Harter as part of the mission of Musical Theater Heritage: for the appreciation and awareness of the 100-years of the American Musical".

As a 501c3 non-profit corporation, MTH is publicly supported. Grants & financial gifts for production costs of "A Night on the Town" are tax-deductible.

Known simply as MTH, Musical Theater Heritage was founded in 1998 by George Harter, as a 501c3 Production Company to entertain and enlighten new generations with the legacy of the American art form known as Musical Comedy.

MTH presents classic musical theater and review performances in the 240 seat, Off Center Theatre at the Crown Center Shops in Kansas City. These are professional productions using all local talent and are presented in concert or semi-staged form.

In 2009 MTH's production of Big River was named "The Best Musical of the Year" by The Johnson County Sun, and in 2010 MTH's 1776 was named "Best Musical Revival of the Year" by The Pitch.

Other MTH productions have included: (see the list to the right) Guys & Dolls, On The Town, Carousel, Man of LaMancha, The Fantastics, Into The Woods, Brigadoon, The Pajama Game, and How To Succed In Business.... MTH original productions include: Bernstein's Broadway, A Spectacular Christmas, and a review of songs by Jacques Brel.

Several times a year, MTH takes theater fans to New York for organized trips that include Broadway shows, fine dining, four nights at the Algonquin Hotel and fascinating insights into the history of Broadway and the American Musical.
