GRAMMY Jazz Ensembles To Perform At 2011 GRAMMY Week Events

Thirty talented high school students - representing 30 cities and 12 states from across the United States - who have been selected for positions in the GRAMMY® Jazz Ensembles.

WHAT:
These young musicians will travel to Los Angeles for a weeklong musical adventure under the direction of Justin DiCioccio of the Manhattan School of Music, Dr. Leila Heil of Colorado State University, and Dr. Ron McCurdy of the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music. They will be launched into the spotlight surrounding the 53rd Annual GRAMMYAwards through performancesat a number of public GRAMMY Week events, including an appearance at the second annual GRAMMY In The Schools® Live! - A Celebration Of Music & Education, sponsored by the Ford Motor Company Fund with support from Best Buy and Converse. This special evening, which is open to the public, will showcase the Ensembles, along with student alumni from GRAMMY Camp® and GRAMMY Signature Schools, with a special guest performance by GRAMMY nominee Sara Bareilles (Best Female Pop Vocal Performance) on Feb. 9, 2011, at University of Southern California in Los Angeles, Calif.

The Ensembles will offer another public performance at Spaghettini Italian Grill & Lounge with special guest artistand GRAMMY nominee Esperanza Spalding (Best New Artist) on Feb. 10.

The GRAMMY Jazz Ensembles will also perform Feb. 11 at the 21st annual MusiCares®Person of the Year tribute, which will honor Barbra Streisand. Legendary Capitol Recording Studios are again provided by the EMI Music Group for the Ensembles to record a CD on Feb. 11 and Feb. 12. It will join the lineup of previous CDs available for purchase at online music outlets such as iTunes and Amazon. As a grand finale, the Ensembles will attend the 53rd Annual GRAMMY Awards on Feb. 13 as guests of The Recording Academy®and will perform at the GRAMMY Celebration®After Party.
