"NORTH," the acclaimed new album from Emblem/Atlantic recording group Matchbox Twenty, has made a stunning chart debut, coming in at #1 on the SoundScan/Billboard 200 after its first week in release. Fueled by critical acclaim -- as well as the current hit single, "She's So Mean" -- the album's unprecedented popularity marks the multi-platinum rock band's first-ever chart-topper and #1 debut. "To be a band that put out our first album in 1996, and have our first #1 in 2012 feels like we are doing something right," said Matchbox Twenty frontman Rob Thomas.

Last week also saw the long awaited re-launch of Matchbox Twenty's official website, located at www.matchboxtwenty.com. Among the site's many interactive highlights is the new "'NORTH' Spotify Timeline," the first of its kind, allowing fans to look back at all the classic hits and memorable moments of the band's remarkable career, from 1997's legendary debut, "YOURSELF OR SOMEONE LIKE YOU" to the extraordinary "NORTH." Matchbox Twenty will celebrate with an upcoming live appearance on the nationally syndicated Ellen Degeneres Show, slated for Tuesday, October 2nd. In addition, the band's Rob Thomas and Kyle Cook can be seen on the September 15th edition of VH1's Top 20 Countdown. (check local listings). The appearances follow a long string of high profile TV performances heralding "NORTH," including NBC's TODAY, CBS' Late Show with David Letterman, and VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live, not to mention frontman Thomas' visit to CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight.

In addition to its chart-topping success here in the United States, "NORTH" has further proven an international sensation by also entering the Australian album chart at #1. Matchbox Twenty will thank their many fans down under with a hugely anticipated Australian arena tour, kicking off October 20th at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena. The trek follows two upcoming sold out London headline shows, O2 Shepherds Bush Empire on September 18th and the upcoming iTunes Festival 2012, slated for September 19th at Camden's famed Roundhouse.
