The Barns at Wolf Trap Presents Melissa Manchester and Catie Curtis, Nov. 17-18

Melissa-Manchester-11111-20010101

Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter, actress, and composer Melissa Manchester returns to The Barns at Wolf Trap to showcase her beloved sound influenced by her heroes Paul Simon, Bette Midler, Barbara Streisand, and Barry Manilow. Boasting almost four decades of experience as an entertainer and master of several different performance genres, Manchester's classic, sultry voice and intimate performance style have been the catalyst for the majority of her widespread success. Her songs have been recorded by Barbra Streisand, Alison Krauss, Roberta Flack, Johnny Mathis, and many others.

Manchester has also had starring roles acting and singing on stage in Andrew Lloyd Webber's SONG AND DANCE and MUSIC OF THE NIGHT, Sondheim's SWEENEY TODD, and most recently in the Chicago premiere of HATS! Her recent receipt of the Governor's Award from the National Academy of Recordings Arts and Sciences is proof of her a place as one of the most influential and versatile performers of the past four decades.

The performance will be Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35.

Catie Curtis was last at The Barns in the spring of 2009, "folk-rock goddess"-as termed by The New Yorker-Catie Curtis returns in support of 'Hello Stranger', her 10th and latest release. An acoustic string band album featuring stripped down versions of her classic songs, 'Hello Stranger' is a response to Curtis's fan's request for a recording that captures the spirit and intimacy of her live shows. The record features Nashville all-star pickers Stuart Duncan (fiddle, mandolin), Alison Brown (banjo), Todd Phillips (bass), George Marinelli (guitar/mandolin/dobro), and Kenny Malone (percussion).

A record deal with EMI/Guardian Records in 1996 helped earn the New England native Curtis national recognition and song appearances in several independent films and popular television shows including Felicity, Alias, Chicago Hope, and Grey's Anatomy. While mainstream success has helped propel her career, her focus remains on building a fan base from a grassroots level through inspired, endearing live performance.

Meg Hutchinson is currently touring behind her new album, 'The Living Side.' Meg Hutchinson combines a raw storytelling folk style with tasteful, intimate vocals that artfully document the human condition. Since the release of her Red House Records debut, Come Up Full, she has been turning heads and hearts with international performances and press buzz on NPR Music, XM/Sirius Radio, and the syndicated show Mountain Stage. Publications like The Winnipeg Free Press have compared her songwriting with that of veterans Dar Williams, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Joni Mitchell.

The performance will be Friday, November 18, 2011 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $22.

Tickets can be purchased by calling 1(877)WOLFTRAP; or online at www.wolftrap.org
